The "Réveil" (wake-up) of the first day of the New Year

version en Français  german Variante

There is in Chirassimont see text , a small village in French region Rhône-Alpes, at 60 km. (37 miles) from Lyon, also famous place for the French Drum see story a tradition which goes back up in 1946. The first day of January, every year, in the morning, some bugles and drummers (generally a robust base of accustomed musicians, more sometimes some the others) play the "Réveil en campagne" (more or less the "Diane" plus the "Rigaudon") or also the "Réveil de la Garde" in different places of the village, about ten. New inhabitants are a little surprised, former ones are happy to see the continuity of this particular thing, shutters half-open, sometimes a door with a hot fortifying coffee, and sometimes much more. All that ends about at 11 a.m. The linked photos, dated 2008 January 1st, 2010 January 1st and 2012 January 1st, illustrate this fact, audacious way (the weather often is less complaisant) to start every new year with our favourite instrument.
