The "Réveil" (wake-up) of the first day of the New Year

version en Français

There is in Chirassimont, see text a small village in French region Rhône-Alpes, at 60 km. (37 miles) from Lyon, also famous place for the French Drum see story a tradition which goes back up in 1946. The first day of January, every year, in the morning, some bugles and drummers (usually the same people) play the "Réveil en campagne" (more or less the "Diane" plus the "Rigaudon") or also the "Reveil de la Garde" in different places of the village, about ten. New inhabitants are a little surprised, shutters half-open, sometimes a door with a hot fortifying coffee. All that ends about at 10 a.m. The linked photos, dated 2008 January 1st and 2010 January 1st, illustrate this fact, audacious way (the weather often is less complaisant) to start every new year with our favourite instrument.
